The Westshore is an exciting place to be this weekend, with a variety of events taking place throughout the area. With many options for outdoor and indoor activities, you’ll want to pack your sunscreen and water bottle for a full weekend of fun.
Metchosin:
🚛 Bottle drive: Join the Metchosin Preschool from 9am to 12pm this June 12 for their bottle drive. You can bring your bottles to the Metchosin Golf Course.
Sooke:

🎲 Games night: Bring friends and family to the Edward Milne Community School Library for their free games night this June 9. The three-hour event starts at 6pm, and there are more than 65 board games to choose from.
🎬 Monthly movie night: For $5 at the door, the Sooke Community Theatre will be playing The Banshees of Inisherin this June 9 from 7-9pm. Doors open 20 minutes before the screening and food is not permitted.
🍶 Fused glass workshops: On June 11, Susan Isaac is hosting a beginners glass sculpting workshop from 1-4pm in her workshop at 3809 Otter Point Rd.—for those looking for more of a challenge, Isaac is also hosting studio times starting June 10 to allow students to develop their techniques.

🎟️ Sangster Elementary Spring Fair: Join Sansgter Elementary for their June 8 spring fair. With a variety of games, food, and prizes, you can RSVP on their Facebook.
🐟 World Oceans Days: On June 10, join the community in celebrating World Oceans Day at Fisgard Lighthouse. Head to Fort Rodd Hill from 10:30am to 4pm and join in on a variety of fun and educational activities.
⚽️ Royal Bay Sports Day: In Meadow Park from 11am to 2pm on June 10, join in on some soccer-related games and fun. With cool prizes, delicious food trucks, and even get the chance to practise drills with former Vancouver Whitecaps FC goalkeeper David Ousted.

🌸 Ladies’ Spring Social: On June 9, join special guest speakers Sarah Glasspoole and Heidi Graf for an evening of networking and financial education. From 6-8:30pm, head to the WFG Office on Peatte Road and enjoy an evening of refreshments, socializing, and learning.
🧶 World Knit in Public Day: Head to the Langford Station on June 10 to celebrate the art of knitting. With events, promotions, and the opportunity to knit in the space, you can join in on the fun from 11am to 4pm.
🥁 Change Makers Gathering Festival: On June 10, from 11am to 4pm at the Starlight Stadium, participate in honouring Indigenous culture, values, and history. Watch musical performances, participate in workshops, and walk through artisan booths.

🚒 Fire department open house: The View Royal Fire Department will be hosting an open house on June 10 from 10am to 2pm. Meet the team, join in on activities, and enjoy food and drinks—ensure to check parking before arriving.
🎸 Vinyl Wave: Head to the Well Public House on June 10 to watch local BC rock duo Tom Watson and Dave Mills perform live—the show starts at 8pm and there is no cover charge.
Esquimalt:
🧸 Everyone Welcome Playgroup: Calling all families with zero to five-year-olds; sign-up for playtime at the Esquimalt Recreation Centre from 10:30-11:45am on June 8. Kids will enjoy a series of activities while adults receive resources about a variety of parenting tips.
🛼 Roller derby: The Archie Browning Arena in Esquimalt is hosting an exciting evening of Roller derby this June 10. From 5-9:30pm, watch two games with friends, family, or go by yourself—tickets sell fast and are $15 at the door, so purchase $10 tickets in advance online. Children 10 and under are free.
📚 Book launch celebration: Join Ron Kearse and collaborating authors on June 10 to discuss publications of Sharing Our Journeys - Queer Elders Tell Their Stories, Sharing Our Journeys 2 - Queer BIPOC Elders Tell Their Stories, and Last Chance Town. Running from 10am to 5pm at the Esquimalt Recreation Centre, tickets are $18 online; attendees will have the chance to meet the authors, listen to readings, and discuss their work.
